If you’re into J-POP or Japanese music in general, you may have heard this Japanese legend’s name before. A leading figure of the Japanese music industry since the early 90, Amuro Namie, also known as the “Queen of Japanese Pop” has recently officially retired from the music scene on September 16, 2018. In a tribute to her successes and achievements, we decided it was only appropriate to give you guys a brief introduction of her and our favorite Amuro Namie CDs!
Who is Amuro Namie?
Born in Okinawa, Japan in 1977, Amuro Namie was born into a family of four siblings. When she was twelve years old, Amuro’s musical ability was discovered when she was visiting her friend. She was scouted by an actors school and was soon placed in an idol group called “Super Monkey’s”. Although the group did not gain much success as a whole, Amuro individually gained popularity as an upcoming actress and fashion model. After the group split ways after their successful single “Try Me (Watashi wo Shinjite)”, Amuro signed individually to the music label Avex Trax and the rest is history.
On September 20, 2017, her 40th birthday, Amuro announced her plan to retire from the music industry to the public in a press conference, which shocked many fans. Her final compilation album Finally, sold 2.25 million copies and was placed first in the Oricon music popularity ranking charts. After her final tour and concert on September 15, 2018, Amuro Namie officially retired and took her final step away from the music scene the next day.
