Doraemon is a cat robot sent back from the future (the 22d century) in order to help Nobita Nobi, an unfortunate fourth-grader from Nerima in Tokyo, by his great-great-grandson Sewashi. He sent Doraemon with the intention of helping his relative from a terrible future that will deeply affect his offspring (including Sewashi, of course). He’s probably not the best oiled machine, and is terribly afraid of mice, but I mean, who wouldn´t be if one bit them off, he’s literally missing a screw in his head, and has a remarkable appetite for Dorayaki. Even though he is in fact flawed, the main point for his charm is exactly that. How would Nobita get in to amazing adventures (and great trouble), if Doraemon was a perfectly put together robot cat.
How it all started and how it keeps going
Doraemon’s first appearance was in December 1969 in a Manga published by Shogakukan. Since his debut Doraemon and all his adventures have been reunited in forty-five tankōbon volumes. He has also appeared in a wide variety of manga and Comics, there’s bilingual daemon comics, and the original manga has been translated to over 45 languages. Our dear robot is also featured in anime that was, and is still being broadcasted in TV’s literally around the globe. This amazing success is due to the fact that this sweet cat is an amazing example of the best friend we all wish to have.
