The Setting of Gundam SEED
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, covers the story of Kira Yamato, who was born in an era called the “Cosmic Era”. Humans in this world are divided into “Naturals”, born and raised naturally on earth, and “Coordinators”, who were born after genetic modification. In this era of constant conflicts between these two groups, many Coordinators have chosen to immigrate to outer space, and the Kira family is no exception, emigrating to the Orb Union’s space colony Heliopolis.
Because where Kira lives is a neutral country, he originally had no connection with any outside war. One day, Heliopolis was attacked by the ZAFT army. Kira gets involved in the conflict at this point in order to protect others from the ZAFT soldiers. it was then discovered that the soldier who had attacked him was a childhood friend who he had not seen for many years, Athrun Zala. Starting from this reunion, the story continues from their perspectives and looks closely at the various causal relationships brought about by the war.

Developed by the Earth Alliance and piloted mainly by ZAFT soldier Dearka Elsman. The “Buster” in the name of the machine references its destructive power.
