Music Career of Hotei Tomoyasu
Hotei Tomoyasu was born on February 1st, 1962 and is a well-known musician, singer, producer and actor. His career has spanned over 35 years and he has sold over 40 million copies of music. He first became known through his guitar playing with the band “Boøwy”, a popular Japanese rock band, between the years of 1981 to 1988. After many successful albums and hits, the brand broke up and Hotei decided to start a solo career from 1988.
Internationally Acclaimed Musician Hotei Tomoyasu
After starting his solo career in 1988, he has had many great albums and singles both domestically and internationally. To follow his dream to become a successful international musician, Hotei moved to London in 2012. Since relocating to London he has had the opportunity to play with The Rolling Stones and Zucchero, as well as being able to play in England’s Cornbury Festival, Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival, and the UK’s Y Not Festival.

Internationally Hotei is best known for his song “Battle Without Honor or Humanity,” which has been featured in numerous films, commercials and video games, and events. It was also in Quentin Tarantino’s movie, Kill Bill.
Hotei’s English Album
In order to become successful abroad, Hotei had to start creating music in English. The English album Strangers, which was released in 2015, has a hit single “How The Cookie Crumbles” that features Iggy Pop. This was his first album that was released internationally and is another reason why he became more popular globally.

On February 1, 2012, Hotei held a concert in Japan to celebrate his 50th birthday and you can see his live performance on this DVD. As a special birthday surprise, an old band member from Boøwy comes onto the stage to play with him. Definitely an epic birthday celebration!
