A BATHING APE
First up is A BATHING APE. Famous for its secrecy and exclusivity, A BATHING APE, or just simply BAPE, has been one of the leading streetwear brands from Japan for many years. Founded in 1993 by Tomoaki Nagao, or more famously known as Nigo, A BATHING APE went from a local secret to a worldwide franchise.

Undercover
Up next, we have Undercover. Founded by Jun Takahashi, Undercover is a fashion brand popular to those who favor wearing something casual, something intriguing to look at, or something that has meaning to it. Here’s a fun fact: Nigo, the founder of BAPE, and Jun Takahashi actually went to the same designing school in Tokyo and were acquaintances. The two made a brand together called NOWHERE – if you like BAPE and Undercover, I advise you to go check it out.

COMME des GARCONS
Founded in 1973, COMME des GARCONS is a popular brand to both males and females in Japan. COMME des GARCONS means “Like Men” in French, and as the name suggests, the initial purpose of the brand was to create a new line of masculine clothing for women. Nevertheless, the brand gradually grew popular among men, and now COMME des GARCONS is a men’s favorite in not only Japan but all around the globe.
NUMBER (N)INE
NUMBER (N)INE is a brand founded by Takahiro Yamashita in 1997, influenced by his passion for music and obsession on American bands. From his love for music to anarchism, Miyashita explored many themes for the clothes he designed. Although Yamashita closed the brand in 2009, NUMBER (N)INE is still a favorite not only to men in Japan but also people all around the globe.
Y’s
Last but not least, we have Y’s, a sub-brand of COMME des GARCONS. Established by Yohji Yamamoto, this brand is mainly comprised of simple-looking but elegant clothes that many have come to like and enjoy the contemporary day.
